U-505 Submarine Plaque

About This Project

My stepdad, Greg, built an exact replica of the U-505 submarine, the first submarine that we captured in WWII. He spent many years on it and has it proudly displayed in his basement. When he was building the submarine, he met former German crew members that were on the sub and one of them gave him an actual plaque that was mounted on the sub’s periscope. For years, he had it screwed to a piece of wood. For his birthday, I wanted to make something nicer for him. I bought a shadow box from Michael’s (I wish I had made it) and then created a beveled piece of oak for the inside and mounted the plaque to it. The last picture shows his model submarine.
