Am I losing my mind?

Several months ago, I subscribed to the New York Times’ Circuits email newsletter based on a co-worker’s recommendation. It comes once a week and has an article written by David Pogue. He’s a well-known technology guy that writes really good articles about different gadgets. I saw him speak at a Social Media conference in Vegas in April 2008. He was really good. Anyway, I’ve realized that I don’t read the e-newsletter and have attempted to unsubscribe from it. Over the last month, I’ve unsubscribed at least 4 times. Yesterday it showed up in my inbox.

So this time I’m going to take some screen caps of the unsubscribe screen just to make sure I’m not crazy. You can see below that I clicked the “unsubscribe” link in the email. Click on the thumbnail below to see the unsubscribe page.

So I’m crossing my fingers that the email doesn’t come through next week because I really don’t want to have to hunt down someone at NY Times about manually removing me from the list. And I certainly shouldn’t have to…

UPDATE: Apparently the unsubscribe link in the “Circuits” email unsubscribes me from a completely different email called “Tech Updates”. David Pogue left a comment for me pointing that out. I guess we’ll see if “Circuits” shows up next week.

The screenshot shows the problem, Jay–you’re unsubscribing from the wrong newsletter.

Mine is called Circuits.

“Tech Update” is something totally different.

Good luck!

David helped me figure out the problem. When I click unsubscribe in the “Circuits” email, I’m unsubscribed from a completely different email called “Tech Updates”.

Amusing, Jay, but there’s no way the real David Pogue responded to your blog. No freaking way. Dude, do you know how busy that guy is? Do you think he just sits around waiting to respond to bloggers griping about their “unsubscribe” troubles? That was an imposter.

I mean, David writes like 18 articles a day, he reviews every electronic gadget that comes along, he has his own blog, he’s on TV, he sings, he writes books, he plays piano, he’s practically a Broadway legend (um, I think), and he’s got a wife and kids who, if they’re like MY wife and kids, require at least a few minutes’ attention now and then too.

You really shouldn’t unsubscribe to begin with. His stuff is hilarious and informative. You just might learn something, and then we can finally talk intelligently about gadgets.

I’ve been working the PR thing with him for months, trying to get him to look at GE digital cameras, but I can’t break through. And I’m not faulting him, I’m just sayin’… The guy is BUSY. He’s at the New York Freakin’ Times, man. He says he’s already got boxes and boxes of stuff to review, piled up so high he could build a new World Trade Center (okay, I exaggerate) and would never be able to get to even one more box. Of course, I haven’t given up, but…

So there’s no way he responded to your blog.

I guess the next you’re going to tell me is that he’ll see this comment and request a camera from me.

Because, you know, David Pogue has nothing better to do.
